A Lilly Table ---NOT!!!

When these incredible birthday flowers arrived from my (incredible) daughters, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this post.

I put together this preppy pink and green table that might remind you of an iconic designer whose company has been in the news a lot lately.  Lilly Pulitzer!!!!  I planned on this table with the Lilly salad plates and napkins offered by Target, which went on sale this past Sunday.  DIDN'T HAPPEN!  Unless you've been under a rock or on the moon, you already know why.  You don't need to hear about my resentment and how I think it has hurt the Target brand, right?

So, after the surprise delivery of the flowers, I knew this was the day to go pink and green and I started with this tablecloth.  I'm not totally sure, but I think it is by Swell which Target carried a few years ago.  (Back when I liked Target!)

The white Portugese plates grounded the pink scalloped plate.  The green bowl and bread and butter plate are from Ballard's, and the pink flatware is so old that I can't begin to guess where it came from.

Bold pink napkins are gathered with some preppy grosgrain ribbon held by some D rings, much like a ribbon belt.  Makes me miss my monogrammed Bermuda bag!

They perfectly co-ordinate with these insulated tumblers which are also a gift from one of my daughters.  Love these!

What better choice of candlestick than these palm trees?  They were raw tin when I bought them, but a can of high gloss white spray paint fixed that!  The lime candles are a little heftier than the usual taper, and work well.

When there are only TWO candles, don't you think I could get them both straight????

No place cards, no menus, nothing extraneous.  I just let the cheerful colors come through!

Thanks, girls!

These make up for the Target disappointment. OK!  That's the last time I'm going there!

Know what this table needs?  Those precious girls joining us for dinner!

A Tribute to the Dogwood Festival

Many, many people in Atlanta look forward to the Dogwood Festival each year.  It was held this past weekend, and it was full of music, art, food and celebrated the lovely dogwood trees we are so privileged to have here in this beautiful city.  I put together this table as a tribute to the many volunteers that it takes to hold this event.

We have lots of dogwood here, both as specimens and many wild ones in the woods.  They made beautiful fillers for these old blue Ball jars.  I kept the white linen cloth and the burlap runners that I had on the table for "Bunnies and Burlap" (here).

I posted a very similar table to this before, when the dogwood was blooming.  It was probably my favorite table ever.  You can see it here.

I love the colors of taupe, turquoise and white together.  Can you see the faux bois design on the salad plate?

The light wood on the flatware seemed just right with the burlap, and I used these white linen napkins with turquoise linen flower napkin rings.

I put bread sticks in these glass lined, birch covered votives.

The glassware was plain Tiffany stems with turquoise glass tumblers made by Martha Stewart.

I love this easy, easy centerpiece.

These birch-like candles never even got lit, as it is staying light so much later these days.

I knew we are headed for a full week of rain, so I grabbed my clippers and cut a huge bunch of limbs for this granite bucket by the front door.  Is it too much to mix the dogwood and the forsythia?  Oh, who cares?  I'm so into spring!

Bunnies and Burlap

It seems that boys are allergic to pink and green and all the traditional colors of Easter, so since I'm expecting my grandsons today for a week, I decided to forgo the pastels and go to neutrals and burlap.  The only thing at danger here is the white tablecloth.  :-)  I did a similar table to this a couple of years ago that you can see here.

The new item this year is this set of William Sonoma napkins that my friend, Ann gave me for Christmas.

You can still see the bunny face when they are gathered, but WHY didn't I turn them the other way?
These napkin rings were from Pottery Barn several years ago.

Here's the way the table is looking.  Burlap and boys......good combination.

These plates and chargers are from Z Gallerie, and the bowl is from Portugal.

This old Imperial glass stem pairs well with these raffia covered stemless wine glasses.

My favorite candlesticks.

This centerpiece will last all week, since it is all artificial.

Peter sits on a couple of latex cabbage leaves.....

with his friend Mopsy.

These seem to be in use all the time.  Love them.

I'll add a couple more places to this table and soon the fun will begin.

The sideboard display is the same as it is every spring.  You can see a tutorial that I did for it here.

Wishing you all a wonderful Holy season, and the gift of loved ones around your table.
