Flowers From My Girl

When our older daughter, Amy, sent me these beautiful flowers for my birthday, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.

I pulled the salmon color out of the arrangement with this tablecloth, and then featured the red and yellow with the rest of the table.

There were beautiful fuchia flowers, too, but one more color on the table would have made it look like fruit salad.

Here's what our quick lunch table looked like. It was a simple lunch of salad, since a wonderful dinner out was planned.

I'd been wanting to use these rooster salad plates from World Market for a while, so they were the perfect choice.  I layered them with a red dinner plate from Ballard's and a woven charger.

This vintage red stem was the only glassware, because it was lunch, ya know?  We had to DO things later.

These French napkins are some of my favorites, and they are held in this orange knotted ring from Old Time Pottery.  I see one of my favorite high-end stores carry these as well.  I bought them for $1.69 vs. $8.00.  Score!   I might have bought them in several other colors as well.

This multi-colored flatware was already out because I was going to use it for Cinco de Mayo.

It was a gloomy, gloomy day, but man, those flowers sure did make me happy!

And look who came to celebrate my birthday with us.  Frenchie!  You can see my first post of Frenchie here.

You can't tell by looking at him, but he's really excited about my birthday lunch.

Chickens Again

My Mom is still visiting and since she loves chickens and loves blue, I decided to do this very casual table when we had one of Mr. Pressed Pant's golf buddies here for dinner.  It was not girly foo-foo fussy but Mom and I had fun putting it together.  I started with these napkins from Old Time Pottery, bought with her in mind.  Here's a link to the chicken table I did last year when she visited.

I just took those colors of cream, navy and red and started setting the table.

These place mats were from Old Time Pottery, too, and the red flatware was from some other discount store.  I can't even remember which one.

Then I added this squarish blue dinner plate, also from Old Time Pottery, and the red scalloped salad plate from Ballard Design.

The red water goblets are vintage, and these wine stems are Juliska.  They were a gift from a reeeeeealy good friend!

The napkin was gathered into a point at the center.......

and held with a chicken wire napkin ring from Pottery Barn.

Also from Pottery Barn, these chickens held simple placecards.

I chose two of these red pots with scalloped edges and..........

filled them Kroger daisies and nandina berries from our yard.  These simple flowers seemed like farm-yard blooms.

Boy!  I should call this post "Ode to Old Time Pottery", as this rooster is from there, too.  I used him for a post about a breakfast table I did a few months ago.  You can see it here.

Here's how the center of the table looked with the rooster and two pots of daisies on a cream twill runner.

I have some chicken salt and pepper shakers, but I couldn't find them.  I don't have Alycia Nichols' (Table Twenty-Two) inventory system!!!!  So, I used these, as I thought they had a farmhouse look.

And this held peach pie, as our guest, Corey, was leaving Atlanta after about five month's of business here, and returning to California.  I wish I had thought about serving him grits, too!

Big Hen and Little Roosters Tablescape

I've had this rooster centerpiece for quite a while. I first used it for a "hen party".

When I found these rooster salad plates at World Market, I knew I had a new way to use her.

I set the table for four in the dining room with no tablecloth or pads.  My mom was with us and she loves chickens, so I knew I had to do this table sometime during her visit.

Starting with a bright yellow placemat from Kohl's, I decided to use yellow, red and orange with a touch of green.

These straw chargers were stacked with creamy plates from Target, then a tomato-red plate from Ballard, then the rooster salad plate.

I'm not sure, but I think this flatware came from Target, too.  It's yellow and red with a touch of green and I remember that I bought it for Mexican tablescape.

These versitile napkins are from Kohl's Home collection and the straw rings came from World Market this past summer.

I just plopped some grocery store flowers into these sassy little metal holders. These came from the floral wholesaler and I love them, but they leak!  I line them with a baggie.

Pottery Barn makes this candle holder and glass hurricane.  These pillars sure do say "orange"!

Red is brought in with these vintage stems, and I used these glasses in straw sleeves for wine.  They came from Tenille and Company in Atlanta.

Pottery Barn again!

Old, sturdy Imperial Glass salt and peppers from our wedding glassware. I have several pair of these and, boy I use them a lot.

I served wine made by our friend, Tuck Beckstoffer on a wicker coaster.  If you haven't tried this wine, be sure to look for it.  It's moderately priced and oh, so good!

We had such a nice night eating and talking and drinking and laughing!  The four of us represented three generations, but the conversation was spirited and steady! We also had a good time cooking together and what do you think I served?  CHICKEN!!!

Red Rooster and Eggs For Breakfast

Easy, non-fussy tablescapes are a must for breakfast.  This one doesn't even have flowers.

I put this one together on the drop-leaf table in the bar of our house.  It has a French feeling with the heavy linen and roosters.

This combination of red and camel is simple and easy to use.

This set of linens is one of my very favorite.  It is a heavy linen fabric that really feels like French ticking.  The napkins are so luxurious and hug.  I used a simple woven napkin ring from World Market with them.

This flatware is a twisted resin.  I can't remember where they came from, but the color is perfect here.

The bottom plate is from Sear's Country Living Collection.  I was walking through there to get a gift certificate, and I just "happened" to stroll into the homegoods department.  This is the Belgian Rose pattern.

Here's a close-up of the rim.  This photo makes it look a bit grey, but it really was a great match.

The smaller plate, cereal bowl, and coffee mug are from Ballard's.  All the edges are scalloped.  Again, the color in this photo is a bit orange, but they are a deep, tomatoey (is that a word?) red.

The coq plate is also from Sear's Belgian Rose collection.  You can't tell in this picture, but those polka dots you see are camel, which also match the linens.

Here's how the plates stack up.  You can also check out the wonderful texture of the tablecloth.

I love, love, love these Juliska juice glasses.  They are a gift from a dear friend who has exquisite taste.  She is, from time to time, a very welcome guest here.  You'd welcome her, too, with gifts like this, wouldn't you?

Take a good look at these babies!!!

Pottery Barn had these placecard holders on sale a few weeks ago.  Perfect for this table.

Mr. Red Rooster jumped into my cart at Old Time Pottery.  Or is it Olde Tyme Pottery?  Whatever.  He sure holds court on this table.

I added two dishes of brown and white eggs in place of flowers.  They are in a nest of raffia.  Good colors again!  These dishes are from the floral warehouse, but you could find something similar almost anywhere.  I think you can figure out where to get the eggs!

I also love these small pewter pieces from Pierre Deux.  This sweet cow cream pitcher catches any drips in his own bowl.

And these chickens (or maybe geese) hold salt and pepper so sweetly.  I keep this by my stove top and use it every time I cook.

This is a great room for breakfast.  The sun pours in through the windows and doors, as long as breakfast isn't too early!

A toile chicken.  Love it!

I'm linking up with Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for her Tablescape Thursday blogparty.  Please go over there and see some dazzling tables.
