Joyeux Noel

This is my wish for you ALL!!!!!

My 90 year old mother came for her winter visit last week and this is the table I set to welcome her to Atlanta.  I haven't posted until today, because she has kept me BUSY!  She had shopping to do and that took days.  Nothing like pushing a wheelchair through every Atlanta mall the week before Christmas. I say that with a wink, because the truth is, I am very honored to have her here and we both adore her.

This greeted her.

You might guess from the name of my blog that I love toile and this plate made me think of a simple red toile.  It is even called Holiday Toile.  I used this with a red charger over a red and white stripped ticking runner.

And between the two, I used these simple French dinner plates made by Circa.

Red handled flatware, a red napkin, and a white wicker napkin ring are no-brainers to go with this table.

Simple white salt and peppers, and a white French butter dish let the plates remain the star.  These red glass bread and butter plates are from Walmart, I think.

Vintage red stems and a Reidel stemless wineglass finish off the placesetting.

This faux bois chachepot filled with greens and red poinsettias do the trick for a centerpiece.  I had just used this for a luncheon for my bridge buddies.  You can see this luncheon here.

Welcome, Mom!!!  We are so blessed to have you here.

Father's Day and Fish Plates

I'm reposting the table I set last year for Father's Day.  We're eating out at Mr. Pressed Pant's favorite restaurant tonight, so there's no table to photograph.  My love and respect for this man will never change!

There are not enough words to tell you what a great father my husband is.  We have raised two beautiful daughters and they would be the first to tell you how great a dad he is.  I wish they could have been here today, but it was just the two of us for a lovely dinner at home.

I set the table on the lower terrace since it was such a beautiful night.  We have had two bad storms this week, so things are a bit messy outside, but it still felt nice.

For a masculine look, I chose our Portmerion fish plates.  It is the "Complete Angeler" pattern.  Our dinner was grilled sea bass, so this was sort of ironic.  These usually hang on the French plate rack in our bar room.

There are six different fish designs on these dinner plates and different ones on each salad plate.  I used them with wicker chargers on a dark brown tablecloth.

Aren't they pretty?

I love the ferns painted on the edges.

The bright apple green linen napkin shows up nicely on the brown cloth.  I tucked a bobber into the wicker napkin ring just for whimsy.

These apple green wine glasses are some of my favorites.  The water glasses are Bobby Flay's from Kohl's.

In place of a bread and butter plate, I used a wooden bowl for the rolls.

Faux bois salt and pepper shakers.

Since there were ferns on the dishes, I used them in the flower arrangement.  These are just two sleeves of spider mums from the grocery store and the rest of the material came from the yard.

You can't see it very well on the table, but I used this beautiful antique wooden bowl as a container....with a plastic liner, of course.

Here it is peeking out a bit.

This is the only serving piece I bought to go with this pattern.  It's a small covered casserole.  Aren't the colors great?

One woven coaster was used for the wine, and one for the water bottle.  Here's to you Mr. Pressed Pants.  I salute the father that you are and the way you love all of your girls!

Breakfast in the Ya-Ya Room

When we moved to this house five years ago, I was still holding out hope for a grandaughter.  I made sure that one of our guest rooms was pink and green and I chose every item with this imaginary little girl in mind.  Well, you know what they say about God laughing at your plans?  We are the very proud grandparents of three darling little boys and NO girls!
Even so, I love this room.  It's where I let my pink flag fly!  Many of the items in it were in our former guest room that I decorated with the same little girl in mind.  It had a pink and white French toile on every wall, curtain, and all the bedding.  We called it the Ya-Ya room, and so this is the new Ya-Ya room.

This little table usually looks like this, but I thought it was just the right size for a girlie breakfast.

The pink and white plaid taffeta skirt is topped with this beautiful embroidered organza cloth.  I bought it years ago at an antique show here in Atlanta that benefits the Cathedral of St. Philips.  It is in perfect shape and I have even washed it gently several times. (Once when a dirty diaper was laid on top!)

I was really dying to use these wonderful plates I bought at OneKingsLane.com during one of their designer sales.  I got four of them.

They are made in Portugal, even though I was at first sure that they were French.  The pattern is "Pescador", which probably means fisherman.

They really made a pretty table.

Here's an overhead view of the placesetting.

I used this pink French flatware.  It's so feminine.  I wish I had some serving pieces to go with it.

I've had these pink linen napkins and the white wicker rings so long I can't even remember where I got them.

These old etched glasses are probably one of my best ever consignment shop finds.  I got them from The Board of Trade in Roswell, Georgia.  They were even marked down since they had been there a while.  I couldn't believe they hadn't sold right away!  Don't you sometimes wish that dinnerware could tell you stories of some parties it has been to?  I bet these beauties could tell some good ones.  Can any of you tell me anything about these?

I got these depression glass tumblers at Scott's Antique Show.  I bought them off the back of a truck that was selling tools and hardware.  Who knows why they had this one set of glasses?  They must have been anxious to get rid of them, as they made me a good deal on all twelve of them.

As I have said before, I'm not much for artificial flowers, but these just send me!  They appear old and faded.  Probably the epitomy of "Shabby Chic".  The grapes are beaded a beautiful shade of green.

They're in an ivory pot from our oldest daughter's wedding.  I have these all over our house, and there's a lot of them in the potting shed, too.  It's just the nicest size and shape for so many arrangements of flowers, fruit, pinecones, or ornaments.

I gave some thought to using these porcelin pieces in place of the flowers.  I love the soft colors and the French peasant style.

But guess what?  They were made in Japan!

I think the flowers were better on this table, don't you?
