Spode's Glen Lodge Pheasant

When I spotted this fabulous china pattern at B. D. Jeffries, one of Atlanta's nicest gift stores, I fell in LOVE!  I kept thinking and thinking about it and decided that I'd spring for it.  Before I went back to buy it, what did I find at Homegoods????  Four salad plates!  And then, at another Homegoods, I couldn't believe that they had four dinner plates.  I had those at the cash wrap faster than you could believe.

This guy was destined to be the centerpiece at this table.  I put him on a styrofoam base that I filled with mixed greens.

Once I added some glass ornaments, silk hydrangeas, pine cone and feathers, I was pleased with the centerpiece.

Here's the way the place setting stacked up.  I started with a light colored straw placemat, than added a bird's eye maple charger.  Then the dinner plate and the salad plate.

Here's the dinner plate by itself.  It is "Glen Lodge Pheasant" by Spode.  I admit that B.D. Jeffries had the same line with a stag as well, and I was torn.  But then when the miracle occurred at Homegoods, the decision was easily made.

Doesn't it go together well?  

I used this flatware that gets a lot of use, and on top of the hunter green napkin, instead of a napkin ring, I placed a little pheasant that I took right off of the Christmas tree!

These stems are Imperial Glass, and they have been around forever.  The wicker covered glasses are used as stemless wine glasses.  The inserts slip right out to go into the dishwasher. 

And look who else was waiting to join the party!  These salt and pepper shakers don't hold much, but I don't mind refilling, as they are so cute.

I finished the table off with these old wooden candlesticks and brown candles.  

Our grandsons call this guy Phil.  I think it suits him.

But I'm not so sure he likes it!

Let The Holidays Begin!

We had a flurry of entertaining late summer and early fall, then a flurry of vacationing, so it seems like quite a while since we've had folks here to dine.  I feel like this meal will be Holiday '15 liftoff!  We are expecting some dear friends that we have not been with for a long time.  They will be on their way from their summer home to their winter home and they are putting Atlanta on the route so we can re-connect!  Oh, joy!!!!

This arrangement of real and faux gourds has been on our dining room table most of the fall.  While I am usually all about fresh, it is such a treat to take this bin out of storage and decorate the table..Slam bam, done!  I don't worry about rotting or drooping or fading. (I might have to re-think the fresh bias.)

This turned out to be an abundantly beautiful table.

Since I already had the centerpiece sitting on a green linen runner, I didn't want to take it all off and add a tablecloth, so I used cream colored straw placemats to make a contrast on the dark wood table.  Then a cream charger from Z Gallerie, and a dinner plate with the image of a cross cut of a log.

Then, (drum roll please), this salad plate that makes the whole darn table work!  I love it so much.  These were a gift from one of my bridge buddies and the are just about one of the most perfect gifts.

This light wood handled flatware is an old Martha Stewart pattern that, again, shows up well on the table.

I "auditioned" several different napkins before I decided on this dark brown one and then I tied it with a wood slice as a placecard.  I was wishing I had a woodburning tool to write the names, but settled for a brown magic marker.

The glasses are some I use often.  The green stem is from Swoosie's and the amber tumbler is from Bobby Flay's line at Kohl's.

These little plates from the floral wholesaler make a good bread and butter dish.

I regret not buying enough of these little salt and peppers to use them as individuals.  They were from the dollar bin at Michael's a few years ago.

Somehow, water served from this French bottle seems so much better than any of my many pitchers.

This rattan coaster is waiting the perfect bottle of wine.  Hmmm.  What should it be?  Something crisp and white.

Buried in the midst of the gourds, grapes, and nuts, are these wonderful old twisty candlesticks.

As you can see, one reason I like this table so much is that it suits the colors already in this room.

We can't wait to share a meal with these friends.  When you put your feet under the same table, magic often happens.

This year, may the abundance of the harvest season......

translate into an abundance of riches from the presence of your friends.

Boys Will Be Boys

We were so happy to have our daughter and her family here for a short visit this weekend.  That includes our two youngest grandsons, Teddy and Owen.  I set a child-friendly Easter table in the dining room.

That photo of the table was taken while I stood on this settee that is in the window of the dining room, right beside the table.

And THIS is the way it looked during our Easter dinner.  Was he hunting the rabbits on the table, or guarding the family?  And which one was responsible? (Owen ) You can see another surprise this little guy left for me last summer here.  Oh, my!  These sweet little boys with the most tender of hearts surprise me constantly with their rough, tough "boyness"!  Oh, I'd love pink tutus in my life, but I'd never change a hair on their darling little heads.

One More Christmas Decor Post

I shot a few photos very quickly of the dining room and guest powder room.  "Quickly" is the important word here.  You'll see.  For example, this room is not leaning to the left, it was user error on the camera equipment!  But, it gives you a look at the buffet and it's decorations.

A beautiful woodland Santa with his burlap bag sits amidst the greenery.

And the heavy green pottery plate gets an asymmetrical bow.

Over on the chest, I have a little forest of faux trees and  paper mache deer.

Mr. Pressed Pants has a collection of walking sticks and canes in the corner.  This lucky one got a red bow.

No watering this centerpiece!

This little elf likes to sit in the sun on the bench.

The last white poinsettia just ended up on the floor.

In the guest powder room, I spruced things up with a bit of greenery.  "Spruced" them up!  Get it?

I still love this beautiful glass log that my friend sent me last.  I did a post here on it when it arrived last year.

The corner shelves held little pastel bottle brush villages.

The vanity has a few additions for the season.

The best of which, are these lovely pine cone candles.

Whew!  Done!  Time for a glass of wine amidst the twinkle.
